What Kinds of Cases are Heard in Small Claims Court?
In Illinois, the Small Claims Court can only be used for claims under
$10,000. You can use the
Small Claims Court:
If you buy something that doesn't work and the store refuses to return your money
If your landlord refuses to return your security deposit even though you left the apartment clean and
undamaged
If your employer refuses to pay you the wages he owes you
If someone damages your property and refuses to pay you for the damage
If you believe for any other reason that someone has harmed you or owes you not more than
$10,000.00 and
that person refuses to pay
